‘Hindi pa daw solid! NPC still undecided on speakership bet

Rizal Rep. Michael John Duavit and Valenzuela City Rep. Weslie Gatchalian may have jumped the gun on their party mates from the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) by signing a manifesto of support for Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Jay Velasco’s speakership bid.
A source told Politiko that NPC is still undecided on who it will support in the tight speakership contest.
“Some members are for Velasco. The party will meet next week to settle the issue,” the source said.
Duavit and Gatchalian signed a manifesto Tuesday (June 25) on NPC’s behalf pledging support for Velasco’s candidacy.
NPC, which is chaired by businessman Danding Cojuangco, has 36 members in the 18th Congress.
Three other lawmakers from PDP-Laban, the Northern Luzon Alliance and the party-list coalition signed the manifesto of support for Velasco.
Pampanga Rep. Aurelio “Dong” Gonzales, who signed the manifesto on PDP-Laban’s behalf, claimed that Velasco already has the support of around 200 out of the 304 to 306 lawmakers in the House of Representatives.
